All roads lead back to philosophy • Uncovering New Archives ← copies of copies of copies + to think that we are building vast, mutually undermining networks of world-understanding via whispering across windy canyons + I’ve long been amused by the hubris of immediacy • Julia Child’s Kitchens ← deep dive into the mechanics of functional design • “Try Guy”? ← I’m not sure what’s worse: that this nonsense emerged in the first place or that we need think-pieces to correct it. • Speaking of feminism, a delightful analysis of the ramifications of the grotesque in said subcultures ← there is a lot to love about this, but in particular the insinuation that these gestures of aesthetic rebellion ultimately reenforce some fundamentally corrosive power dynamics is pretty striking
The Post Moral Age: Has Evolutionary Science Debunked Virtue? ← no • A fascinating essay on the origins and legacy of A Course in Miracles, a key document of the New Age movement ← when I finally get my shit together and actually use Substack the right way, I plan on diving into these thematic currents1 but this is a gem, far fetched in places but compelling all the same • A delightful investigation of the contemporary shadow militia in the United States; I just hope these people shoot around me when I’m at the bar • The Future of College in an Asset Economy ← As a perennial academic fuck-up and someone who has long held the notion that much of ‘the academy’ should be tapped if not torn down, it’s bitter sweet to read things like this… It’s like seeing that little one you used to usher to kindergarten all gown up, terrifying and pummeling the hell out of someone in a MMA cage fight. The heart swells.
Cioranian. Kierkegaardian. Amosian.
Not New Age content, although that would probably get my Substack numbers up and satisfy my belligerent editor, but the intersection of spirituality, sociology and personal narrative. Think: Kierkegaard, but spiritually healthy and probably drunk. Stay tuned!
